Formulation and in-vitro evaluation of Bosewellia Serrata extract loaded transferosomal gel for treatment of osteoarthritis

Objective: The main objective of the current research work was to formulate and evaluate Bosewellia serrata extract loaded transferosomal topical gels. To overcome drawbacks associated with oral administration in Osteoarthritis treatment. Methodology: Transferosomes were developed using different ratios Phospholipon® 90G as phospholipid, Span-60 surfactant cholesterol fluidity buffer. selected best formulation transferosomes further optimized a gel rate controlling polymers such hydroxylethyl cellulose (HEC), hydroxyl propyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and, carbopol. Transcutol P used penetration enhancer. In vitro diffusion studies formulations carried out Franz cell apparatus. Results: Formulation BT10 prepared 2:1 ratio drug total lipid, lipid 3:1 phospholipid transferosomes. Further formulated by trial error method, where considered gelling agents. HP glycerol enhancer bodying agent respectively. Among twelve formulations, BG11 (Carbopol 971 0.75% w/w) chosen due controlled invitro release very good viscosity spreadabilty.
